William J. Lasarow Award Recipient

 On November 21, 2013 Les Kaufman was honored with the 2013 William J. Lasarow Award. He was recognized for his dedication and willingness to go above and beyond to serve our self-represented debtors and creditors. Les Kaufman added, "This award is especially poignant for me, as Judge Lasarow was the first bankruptcy judge before whom I appeared, shortly after I began my practice in 1983.  He has remained a respected and learned, albeit humble, role model to this day, and I am quite honored to receive the award bearing his name".The William J. Lasarow Awards Ceremony is an annual event. It presents a pro bono award to exceptional individuals. The award was created to recognize outstanding contributions of Orange County Bankruptcy Attorneys who volunteer pro bono services. Public Counsel is the nation’s largest pro bono law firm. It honors volunteers who donate their time. The organization is dedicated to providing  access to justice for individuals and families. This prestigious award is named for Judge William J. Lasarow, (Retired). Judge Lasarow sat as Chief Judge of the Los Angeles Bankruptcy Court for many years. He is revered as an outstanding jurist, and for his fairness, knowledge and compassion.
